Orfeas String Quartet was formed in 2004 by graduates of the Royal Academy and Trinity College of Music. In its initial stages the quartet worked intensively with Michael Bochmann and George Hadjinikos developing its own sound and ethos.  Always aspiring for beauty of line and unity, their sound is unique and has been highly praised. They have given numerous acclaimed performances of lesser known and new repertoire. They were formerly know as the Brunelleschi String Quartet.

Performance highlights include:

  1. Royal Festival Hall as part of the RFH Revival celebrating the newly redesigned acoustic.

  2. St Martin in the Fields as part of the Re-Opening Celebrations Dover House,

The Scottish Office Celebration of the 300th Anniversary of the Union of England and Scotland.

  1. HRH Prince Philip at the Queen’s House in Greenwich

  2. Canning House Recital for the Latin American Cultural Institute

  3. Broadcasting on “The Voice of America” the work of Amir Sadeghi Konjani.

  4. The Quartet gives recitals in Music Clubs & Festivals through out Great Britain.

  5. Working with Ezzio Bosso - performing his music in St Martin in the Fields

  6. Working with composer Naresh Sohal and Soprano Sally Silver performing his music.

They have a wide and interesting repertoire from Purcell’s Chaconne to quartets by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Dvorak, Borodin, Turina, Piazzolla & Shostakovich to works written especially for them.

In February 2008 they gave the World Premier of Denise Mangiardi’s Quartet ‘The Heart has No Measure’in Highgate to accompany the first exhibition of Artist Joshua Whiskey’s Painting, (the Quartet’s inspiration).

In March 2011 they gave the World Premier of Aziza Sadikova’s New Amplified String Quartet “Kamni”, which was especially written for them.

The Orfeas Quartet performed on Wayne Gidden’s Debut Album.

The Orfeas String Quartet were recently appointed as the resident string quartet at St John’s Church, Notting Hill.

‘The Orfeas Quartet offers a rare blend of professionalism and passionate musicality that sees its members equally at home contributing a touch of class to a special event or in the spotlight on the concert stage.  St Martin - in - the - Fields is pleased to continue to work with this accomplished ensemble.’

Jennifer Lang, St Martin-in-the-Fields, London
